Meat/Poultry Lobbying

Large meatpacking and poultry interests, including Tyson Foods, Smithfield Foods and the American Meat Institute, spent an estimated $5.7 million opposing pieces of the 2008 Farm Bill that would have stopped the most abusive practices used by meat and poultry companies to treat farmers and ranchers unfairly. These companies and trade associations have spent years fighting against country or origin labeling on meat and against regulations to rein in the overuse of antibiotics in meat and poultry production.
